Nasty Husbands | Institute of Love

Some God-fearing women are married to flat out nasty husbands. So it was with Abigail, a beautiful woman who was married to a wealthy man named Nabal, who was known to be so ill-tempered and grumpy that no one could even talk to him. He also liked to throw big parties, celebrating like a king, and get very drunk. At one point he even insulted David, a man of God, when David asked Nabal if he would be willing to share some of his food with his army. Nabal arrogantly and derogatorily sneered at David's men; “Who is this fellow David? Who does this son of Jesse think he is? There are lots of servants these days who run away from their masters. Should I take my bread and my water and my meat that I’ve slaughtered for my shearers and give it to a band of outlaws who come from who knows where?” Abigail was embarrassed and said about her own husband that he was a wicked man and a fool. (See 1. Samuel 25:1-38) Husbands are like elders or pastors of their homes - they must live a blameless life. They must be faithful to their wives, and their children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. Husbands must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; they must not be heavy drinkers, violent, or dishonest with money. Rather, husbands must enjoy having guests in their homes, and must love what is good. They must live wisely and be just. They must live a devout and disciplined life. (See Titus 1:6-8)
