The other day, I read about a new initiative of a 40-day fast and prayer for revival called “Ekballo,” which according to the organizer means to “forcibly expel”; “to thrust out violently”; “to fling.” Ekballo is to “send out” (workers) in Matthew 9:38 and “drive out” (demons) in Matthew 10:1. It is a spiritually violent and authoritative word. When Jesus, prompted by our prayer, says, “Go!,” demons vacate and missionaries relocate.
This 40 day fast and prayer started March the 1st and will end April 9th, which coincide with the anniversary of the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles, California from the early 1900.
This Ekballo initiative sound like a great idea, until you find out that it will cost you - to begin with - a $25 non-refundable registration fee, and then a whopping $595 for the 40 day fast and prayer, which includes housing and some missionary training.
You may ask yourselves; would Jesus charge His followers to come together to fast and pray and be trained for revival? Why don't these leaders just take up an offering and trust God for what comes in, and in doing so, be an example of walking in faith? No, instead they have to be busy charging non-refundable fees and tuitions. These leaders cannot even believe and trust God to supernaturally provide for them, and now they are making you believe for revival to come through their new initiative?
I think Asuza Street revivalist William J. Seymour would turn in his grave by hearing this!
What we actually desperately need, is a revival among spiritual leaders that will cause them to repent and start living the example of God's Word, by eagerly caring for the flock without any monetary conditions attached to it!
Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. 1. Peter 5:2 NLT
