Genuine Love | Institute of Love

If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; because those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters. (See 1. John 4:20-21) God called us Christians to be of one mind, sympathizing with each other and loving each other as brothers and sisters. He also wants us to be tenderhearted and keep a humble attitude. We should not repay evil for evil or retaliate with insults when people insult us. Instead, we pay them back with a blessing, because if we do so, God will bless us in return! For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it. The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” (See 1. Peter 3:8-12) Therefore, “don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other!” Romans 12:9-10 NLT
