Unloving Husbands | Institute of Love

If a husband who says he is a Christian is not loving his wife through communication and intimacy, it is because he rejects or hates himself and cannot love himself, and therefore he is also unable to love his wife. In other words, what you don't have, you can't give! The Bible says; “husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.” Ephesians 5:28-29 NLT  The bottom line is that these so-called Christian husbands do not know God who is love, because if they did, they would love their wives as they should. “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1. John 4:8 NLT  Over the years, we have heard countless testimonies of women who have been severely hurt by their husband's cold, unaffectionate, and unloving attitude towards them and others. According to these women, many of their so-called Christian husbands are the ones who sanctimoniously say “I love God,” but in the meantime they hate a Christian brother or sister. (See 1. John 4:20) Very sad, tragic and embarrassing!
