Today is Yom Kippur, also
known as the “Day of Atonement”, the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Jewish
people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period
of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue
services, as they do this in accordance to what is written in the Old Testament
book of the Bible that says; “On that day offerings of
purification will be made for you, and you will be purified in the Lord’s presence from all your sins.” Leviticus 16:30 NLT
At that time, the high priest
was to perform elaborate rituals, which included animal sacrifices to atone for
the sins of the people. (See Leviticus 16:1-34)
But Jesus
Christ, the Messiah, “Unlike those other high priests, He does not need to
offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for
the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when He offered Himself
as the sacrifice for the people’s sins!” Hebrews 7:27 NLT
Yes! “For
Christ Himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one
people when, in His own body on the cross, He broke down the wall of hostility
that separated us. He did this by
ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations!” Ephesians
2:14-15 NLT
Therefore, “There
is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which
we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 NLT
At that name
is the Name Above All Names: JESUS CHRIST!!!
