The Lord’s Supper | Institute of Love

Partaking in the celebration of God's Holy Communion or the Lord's Supper is a very serious event. For every time we eat the bread which represent the body of the Lord Jesus Christ which is given to us and drink the cup of wine after supper which represent the new covenant between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with His blood, we are remembering the Lord and announcing His death until He comes back again. If anyone eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily, meaning with unconfessed sin, or disregarding the true meaning of the bread and cup and forget the tremendous price our Savior Jesus Christ paid for our salvation, is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. You are basically eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. That is the reason why many people are weak and sick and some have even died, as happened in the Corinthian church! We should therefore always examine ourselves before eating the bread and drinking the cup so we would not be judged by God in this way! (See 1. Corinthians 11:17-34)
